Christian Meditation / Contemplative Prayer Group

The saying of the mantra is the way of prayer that leads us to the conditions of silence and stillness, of simplicity, of poverty of spirit, of total and selfless attention to the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

There are other forms of prayer in which we do use words, thoughts and images. Meditation does not replace other forms of prayer. What these are in the lives of different people will depend on their temperament, vocation and the kind of Christian tradition they are formed in. The reading of Scripture, communal prayer and worship and the prayer that expresses itself in physical acts of compassion and works of charity are all irreplaceable elements of a life lived in the way of the gospel. But the forms they take will vary. The practice of meditation is a living foundation for these - not a substitute for them.
